now, onto the hard part...mixing all the ingredients together. (did i mention that i have been notoriously known for not following directions?) everything seemed to be going well...until i began adding the flour. it seemed that the dough was now was too dry to be able to form into balls to drop onto the baking sheet. well...what would one do who has no idea how to bake? add another egg, of course!! well, sure, temporarily this was a great fix! then...it went downhill from there. as i attempted to put balls of dough onto the sheet, i had a SLIGHT problem. the dough wasn't really sticking together..but me being me, i somehow managed to form the crumbling dough together to form cookies.
my cookies appeared to look 'normal' when i brought them out of the oven..but they were by no means soft, moist cookies. they had the consistency of peanut butter cookies more than sugar cookies. i was beginning to think this wasn't such a good idea....
i continued along because i still had hope. i had homemade frosting to make! this was a lot less challenging, and very tasty i might add! i had spent about two and a half hours in the kitchen by this point...but it was time to decorate (and clean up quite a mess)!
by the looks of it, you never would have known that these cookies went through the storm to look the way they do. but the true test is if my husband says they taste good...and he is a tough cookie critic!
i recently read somewhere to start creating your own holiday traditions. making cookies are by no means a new christmas activity, but me..making them..from scratch...alone..that was a new tradition for me. let's just say that i will not be the one carrying on grandma's recipes.
good day to you all~
